Course Description

The purpose of this course is to give the students an introduction into didactical questions that arise in the production of media. The students are to learn some generally applicable didactical principles, understand what constructionism and behaviorism are, look at some ideas on computer-based training, and become acquainted with various forms of delivery for teaching using (multi)media.

The course is based on a German textbook by R. Schulmeister, Grundlagen hypermedialer Lernsysteme. Theorie - Didaktik - Design. 2. Auflage. Oldenbourg, München. 1997. (ISBN 3-486-24419-1). I strongly recommend that you obtain a copy. The Lehmanns Bookstore across the street is informed and can obtain the book rapidly, or it can be ordered through any one of the many on-line bookstores.

The course consists of lectures only. However, I suggest you to read the materials before coming to class, and to be prepared to discuss the topics in class. The lecture and discussion will be in German. I will tend to write the web page in Englisch, however.

Each week I want one or two students to protocol the session and publish it on the web. The authors will be credited with up to 5 extra points for the exam.

The exam will be on Friday, July 21, 2000 from 12-14 for both groups in the Beuth-Saal and be of 90 minutes duration. You may take one piece of DIN A4 paper with you into the exam, containing any information on it that you deem necessary.

The following is a list of books I will be using for preparing the sessions:

I have prepared a tentative schedule of the topics we will be looking at. They are subject to change at any time. If you have suggestions for topics you would like us to cover, please contact me at weberwu@tfh-berlin.de. My office is in Haus Grashof, room 503, but the easiest way to reach me is by email.
