Lab 12: Key Signing
This exercise will be done alone, that is, everyone submits their own, personal report.
Make sure that you have some form of government identification with you (driver's license, ID-card)
Set up your personal email client to use PGP.
Generate your own PGP key and publish the public key on a key server. In your report, discuss how you found a server.
Send a plaintext email to another student and include your public key as an attachment.
Install the public key of another student in your client and write them an encrypted message.
Send either Dr. Thiel or Prof. Weber-Wulff an email, signed and encrypted by you
Try and get as many of your fellow students to check your identity and then to verify their trust level in you. You need to verify as many others as possible. How did you do this in your email program? Can you do it on a key server?
How could we set up a Web of Trust for all IMI students? For the HTW?
