Libraries in Berlin for Computing
As students of the FHTW Berlin you can loan books from any of the Berlin libraries (except from the "Lehrbuchsammlungen"). It is worth looking around for literature, as not all of the libraries have copies of the same books.
- Library Links
- HU
Located in Adlershof in the John-v.-Neumann center. This library has a lot of newer books about computing, as it got money to purchase new books upon moving out to Adlershof.
- TU
The new TU central library now incorporates the old TU computing library. If you are looking for older computing literature, this is the place to go, as the stocks up until about 1995 are very complete. There are some big, gaping holes starting in 1995 and some vital literature (ACM) is just not available for the period ca. 2001-2005 because of attempts to save money. The stacks are open and you can see some of the newer literature on a separate shelf. From 2006 the library is planning on re-subscribing to the ACM Computing Literature
- FU
The FU computing library is part of the Mathematics Library in Dahlem, near both departments and the Zuse-Zentrum in the Arnimallee. The mathematics collection is excellent, the computing collection is not quite as wide or as old as some of the other libraries. It is an open stack library and has many interesting jewels hiding between the outdated books.
- Stabi
Every book that is published in Germany must have a copy in this library! This is the central library for Germany. It is, however, hopelessly overfilled - you must be there at the crack of 9 in the hopes of getting a seat. Often the reading rooms are closed because of overfilling and the online ordering is closed because of a backlog. Don't discourage - do your research online, order online, and then pick up the books without having to go through the reading room. You need to purchase an extra library card for this library. This is a closed library, so you cannot go into the stacks.
