Violence update - November 1992
- 6. November 1992
- Olaf Schluter took up my reporting with these notes: (Source: Kieler Nachrichten of Nov 7th)
- In Wolgast (Vorpommern) two young men manhandled an african refugee seriously; it's possible, that the victim will get blind on one eye.
- In Neubrandenburg a 16 year old girl has been attacked by a crowd of juveniles; the girl told the police that she had been taken for a foreigner and attacked for that reason.
- According to a representative opinion poll in Germany of INFAS 32 % of those interviewed stated that "nationalsocialism has had its good sides".
- On a convention in Nürnberg the Christian Social Union (CSU; government party of Bavaria) supported the decision of Max Streibl (CSU), prime minister of Bavaria, not to participate in the demonstration against
xenophobia in Berlin tomorrow: "The CSU stands closed behind Max Streibls decision not to join the demonstration in Berlin, which will only hide deficits in police and law." Max Streibl called the demonstration a "red herring" and a "funeral march of a helpless democracy." [The demonstration is supported by all other democratic parties in Germany and has the slogan "Dignity is untouchable. No chance for hate."
Among others Bjoern Engholm (SPD chief), Chancellour Helmut Kohl and President Richard von Weizsaecker will be there.]
