Visualizations in Programming
The following are collections of visualizations
that can be used
to illustrate various aspects of programming language instruction.
I am interested in finding metaphors and visualizations from
everyday life for the structures encountered. Too oft, the metaphors used
are from the masculine spheres such as sports, military life or
competition in general [Mellström, 1995]. I hope that these
metaphors and visualizations will help make some of the more
obscure structures understandable, especially for women.
I would love to be able to add more to the collection, please send me
descriptions and fotos!
Other crazy people I have found:
-
Owen Astrachan uses Frisbees for parameter passing and icky-poo
for pointers, we must be kindred souls!
Ulf Mellström, ”Engineering Lives,
Technology, Time and Space in a Male-Centred World”, Linköping Studies
in Art and Science, nr 128, 1995.
