Lab 9: Linked Open Data


  1. Find an interesting data set on Kaggle or the lod cloud. If you are overwhelmed, take the Titanic data set.
  2. Install OpenRefine or find a Jupyter Notebook that is attached to that data set.
  3. Find another interesting data set that could be connected to your first data set. For the Titanic, for example, you could use the name to look the passengers up on other databases and perhaps find where they were born and plot this via Wikidata. The goal is to grab one set of data and connect it up with another set and to see how you can visualize this.

Prepare a report detailing what you did. You should work in groups of 2 or 3. Submit your written report (everyone should have their own copy submitted) to the Moodle area by 22.00 the evening before the session it is due.
